Unleash Your End of Year Momentum:
4 Steps to Finish Strong in 2023 and Beyond

The end of the year is the perfect time to reflect on our goals, recharge our motivation, and create a plan to set ourselves up for success in the year ahead. Today, I’ll share four simple steps to help unleash your end-of-year momentum and put you back in the driver’s seat to finish 2023 on a high, whilst also setting the stage for a fulfilling and inspiring 2024.

Step 1: Wrap Up Your Goals

One common problem I see all too often as the year draws to a close is many individuals stumbling towards the finish line because they haven’t taken the time out to reset and recharge throughout the year.

So, with just over a month left in 2023 I encourage you to take a moment to consider what you’d like to achieve, complete, or tie up before December 31st. Set yourself a few manageable ‘mini goals’ or ‘mini challenges’ to work towards during this time. Remember, they don’t have to be large goals to keep your momentum intact. Infact quite often it’s the small tasks done on a regular basis that generate those bigger results.

For example, in my industry, many coaches start winding down for the year, but I take a different approach. I use this time to explore opportunities while others are slowing down. It might involve opening my schedule for more client enquiries or offering kickstart sessions to help clients build momentum before the holiday season and before my end of year break.

The key is to do something different this year that not only wraps up your year on a positive note but also sets you up for a strong start in the new year.

Step 2: Ignite Your Motivation

November is an excellent time to re-energise. Ask yourself – what would need to change to make 2024 my best year yet?

Think about what your big goals are for 2024 and then, go a little deeper by asking yourself how you can develop the necessary skills to achieve those goals? Who do you need to connect with? How can you make your next year even more purposeful? What do you need to do differently?

Write down your thoughts and revisit them during the break to continue to refine your vision.

Step 3: Build Your Momentum MindMap

Have you ever created a Mind Map? What about one to track momentum? If not, now is the perfect time to start. Grab a piece of paper and begin with a rough sketch of what you want to achieve in the upcoming period.

For instance, if you’re a service professional or business owner, you might categorise your goals into larger pillars such as content creation, marketing, client acquisition, and social media presence, etc. Then, you could expand on each category with more detailed ideas, much like when you brainstorm ideas for a project and go into more details into each of these areas.

An example of this is for when I create content. I would think about what it is that I need to create – is it videos, blogs, youtube clips etc. and then I would do the same for all of my pillars. The key here is to create the outline not the finer details yet. It’s just getting you ready and creative and ready to take those next steps.

While this roadmap may not be perfect from the start, that’s okay. It’s a work in progress. You might need to revisit and refine it a few times to gain clarity on your goals and how they fit into your life. Think of it as a source of inspiration that you can continually adjust to ensure you’re always building momentum and making progress as you head into the end of the year and beginning of the next.

Step 4: Use Your Mind Map To Work On Maximising Your Efficiencies

Imagine starting the new year with a well-defined process to keep you on course. Quite often the usual go to is that many of us make New Year’s resolutions that we never follow through with. This is about taking control of your journey and putting yourself in the driver’s seat and now that you have your Mind Map in place, it’s time to create systems around it. This step is crucial because it not only saves you time but also helps you stay on track and optimise your efficiencies throughout the year. This could be as simple as creating a spreadsheet of momentum builders that you would like to follow through with monthly. What is it that needs to get done that will accelerate your progress to the next level? What do you need to get done that is a non-negotiable?

Finishing the year strong and preparing for the next one doesn’t have to be overwhelming, and it doesn’t have to involve hours and hours of time. Rather, it’s about noting things down and creating efficiencies around them so that you are in fact, taking back your time and taking charge of the life you want to live moving forward. And its by wrapping up your goals, igniting your motivation, building a momentum roadmap, and maximising your efficiencies that you can set yourself up for a successful, purposeful, and fully charged year ahead.
