The 10 steps to becoming a SUCCESSFUL High Performer

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So, you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something–your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” – Steve Jobs

You want to achieve more in life. You want to be successful. But what does it take to get there? Many people think that it’s all about talent, or your IQ, or your sporting ability but, the truth is, success takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Below, please read my top 10 tips in achieving your goals at the level you desire.

10 Steps to becoming a SUCCESSFUL High Performer:

1. GET CLEAR ABOUT YOUR GOALS

To be successful you must start with a plan. What are you striving for? What is you short term and long-term plan? Write it down, get clear on it. Once you know what you are after, it is much easier to create the roadmap for it. Need help with this step, check out my article: High Performance means setting yourself up for the long game.

2. BE DISCIPLINED

You know what you want, you have your goals written down but, what are the steps underneath each goal that you want to achieve. List 5 key points of action that you need to take to reach that goal. Be very clear and specific.

3. INVEST IN YOURSELF

It is so important to invest in yourself first. Too often I hear people say, I’ll invest in myself once I learn this, or once I achieve that. By doing this, not only are you delaying your success, but it’s also the wrong way of approaching the subject. By investing in yourself, you can achieve your goals much faster. Buy that book, invest in that course, hire a coach, look at different areas which will help you excel in your chosen field.

4. DEMONSTRATE COURAGE

You need to be willing to step out of your comfort zone. Nothing changes if nothing changes. So how do you demonstrate courage? You need to raise your level of necessity, step out of our comfort zone and venture into the new by taking meaningful action.

5. LOOK AT FAILURE AS AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO GROW

You need to look at failure as being the gateway to success. Without the learnings that you have had along the way, without the ‘failures and the tweaks that you had to make, or will have to make, you will not get to where you need to be.

6. DO THE WORK

You need to be consistent. You have your goals, and you have your action steps, now you need to implement each action. You need to put in the work consistently to achieve your outcomes. No one even became successful by not applying themselves consistently to their cause. Consistency is key. For more insights, I wrote this article on courage and consistency.

7. SAY NO…OFTEN

What do you want to achieve? What do you need to give up that won’t serve you in the long term? It’s so important to hold your boundary and say no to ensure you reach your goal. This could mean – not going to that dinner, giving up on a certain luxury to buy that ‘thing’ you need in your business etc. Say NO more now, so you can say YES more later.

8. REVIEW AND TWEAK

Review your progress, what has been working well and where are there gaps? By reviewing your processes and zooming out, you are better able to see where the gaps are that are needed to create lasting changes.

9. SHARE YOUR GOALS

Do your closest family and friends know what your long-term goals are? Tell them and involve them in the process, get their support ,or even ask someone to hold you accountable to what you said you wanted to set out to achieve. Sharing your goals not only holds you accountable but can rally the necessary support when you are challenged.

10. REWARD YOURSELF ALONG THE WAY

Don’t wait until you have reached your long-term goal to reward yourself. Set a few milestones along the way and, once you have reached those milestones reward yourself. Go on that dinner, take a break, book that holiday. Whatever it is, it is so important to set mini wins and reward your progress.

I encourage you to take the first step, the rewards are amazing and fulfilling, as you begin your High Performance life.

Live a successful, purposeful and fully charged life everyday!
